Myocarditis: recognizing symptoms and warning signs

Cardio Pro

7 warning signs of myocarditis

Inflammation of the heart muscle (myocarditis) is often treacherous, as in many cases it initially causes no or only very unspecific symptoms. PD Dr. Bruno emphasizes that although the majority of inflammations heal completely, the heart is susceptible to serious complications during this phase. Without specialist diagnostics such as ultrasound strain analysis, these cases often remain undetected.

Focus on myocarditis: protection and prevention with KardioPro

Here is a comprehensive, summary text on myocarditis that combines the medical expertise of PD Dr. med. Raphael R. Bruno with the most important patient information:

Inflammation of the heart muscle, medically known as Myocarditis, is a serious disease of the heart tissue that often occurs as a result of a seemingly harmless viral infection. The risk is that viruses - following a flu-like infection or a gastrointestinal illness, for example - can infect the heart muscle and trigger inflammatory processes there. In modern cardiology, as it PD Dr. med. Raphael R. Bruno in Düsseldorf, the main focus is on identifying this often „silent“ danger in good time before permanent damage such as cardiac arrhythmia or chronic cardiac insufficiency occurs. It is particularly treacherous that many inflammations are initially asymptomatic and only develop their dangerous effects under physical stress.

Focus on myocarditis: protection and prevention with KardioPro

Vigilance is the top priority for athletes and active people. A sudden drop in performance, an unusually high pulse rate with little exertion or a feeling of heart palpitations are warning signals that should never be ignored. In our practice, we use high-precision methods such as the Strain analysis in cardiac ultrasound and, if required, a prompt Cardiac MRI via our partner network. These diagnostics allow us to assess the condition of the heart muscle at a cellular level and rule out areas of scarring.

The treatment of myocarditis requires one thing above all: Consistent protection. At KardioPro, we create an individual „return-to-play“ plan depending on the severity and findings. This gradual return to play ensures that your heart is given the time it needs to fully recover before it is exposed to maximum physical exertion again. Our aim is to guide you safely through the recovery phase so that you remain healthy and efficient in the long term.

STRESS ECG

Frequently asked questions about the exercise ECG

Electrodes are attached to your chest and you take a seat on the ergometer. The load is increased every two minutes (e.g. by 25 or 50 watts). During this time PD Dr. Bruno constantly monitors your ECG and regularly measures your blood pressure until an individual stress limit is reached.

As you can work up a sweat on the bike, we recommend comfortable sportswear or loose everyday clothing and sturdy shoes (sports shoes). We will be happy to provide you with a towel.

The pure exercise phase usually lasts between 10 and 15 minutes. Allow around 30 minutes, including preparation (applying the electrodes) and the subsequent recovery phase, during which we will monitor your pulse and blood pressure.

There is a minimal risk of arrhythmia or circulatory problems in patients with known heart disease. However, as the examination is performed under the personal supervision of PD Dr. Bruno, an experienced cardiologist and emergency physician, ensures maximum safety and immediate assistance.

You should not eat a heavy meal immediately before the test, but also not come with a completely empty stomach. With regard to your medication (especially beta blockers) PD Dr. Bruno inform you in advance whether you should take them as usual or pause them for the test.

At KardioPro we attach great importance to speed. PD Dr. Bruno evaluates the data directly after the examination and discusses the results and the next steps with you immediately.

No. While the exercise ECG primarily measures heart rates and blood pressure, spiroergometry also measures gas exchange (oxygen and CO2) via a breathing mask. Spiroergometry therefore offers even deeper insights into lung function and metabolism.
